Orso is the latest addition to Adelaide’s fine dining brand. Orso is Italian for Bear and design elements of the bear were woven into the structure of the building.
It’s also home to deli-small bar hybrid Willmott’s Gastronomia and a contemporary European bistro. This Eastern Suburbs restaurant is housed in a beautiful circa-1885 renovated bluestone building in Rose Park. The design is grand with thick-cut marble bench tops encasing the open-plan kitchen kitted out with a shiny Josper charcoal oven and fire pit. Willmott’s Gastronomia is respectfully named in honour of the butchers shop that first operated in the building.
The design constraints included sensitivities to the unique dining experience which combines culinary sophistication, warm and inviting environmental considerations as well as a casual convivial feel. The client demonstrated design sophistication and functional clarity requirements with a strong emphasis of brand enhancement through bespoke lighting. The dining areas provided a focal point to design intent and the lighting design was integral to showcasing the embedded architectural elements whilst complementing the most comfortable and conducive dining experience.
A European automation standard was recommended to the client and Atmosphere Design was selected due to its early adoption of the KNX Automation standard and successful implementation over multiple Australian projects.
The unique combination of KNX Automation experience, bespoke luminaire solutions, extensive lighting design experience and in-depth knowledge of compliance requirements allowed Atmosphere Design to meet the expectations of all stakeholders whilst satisfying all certification requirements as well as being nominated for an Australian Lighting Award.
